Description
Elisioni Permanenti deal with the women’s violence issue through the combined use of photographic images and poetry to describe the complex change that occurs in the inner world of each woman who’s affected.
The images do not show explicit violence, but they want to emphasize what often escapes to outside eyes: the victim’s interiority, his becoming an object more and more in the hands of those who commit brutal and violent acts, not only on a merely physical plane, but also psychological.
In the pictures of Niccolò Kirschenbaum, women are represented by dummies, which symbolize the objectification and depersonalization that violence often involves. The outward appearance of these women is contrasted, after repeated violence, with the progressive inner dilation, the loss of consciousness and the exhaustion of those forces that are needed to free themselves from physical and psychological submissiveness.
This fading finds a match in the desolation of the views associated with the images of each dummy. The association of dummy / landscape create an iconographic universe marked by silence, loneliness, obsession, and fear.
The woman turns out to be a doll, a dummy, a dress, but everywhere it is possible to breathe its essence.
