Description

On November 13, 2015, from 9:20 p.m., Paris is under attack. An attack that brings it to the centre of world news once again. The catapult into history with 258 minutes of terror and a death toll of 130. You would never think that by going to a concert your life would change, if you were lucky enough to say you still had one. You would never believe that on an autumn night like any other, the lives of 130 people, of a city, a nation, a continent, all over the world, could change forever.

258 minutes, just over four hours, to which we can add a year of reflection and preparation, for a work with different aspects, which comes in the form of a personal diary of the author. Angelo Ferrillo’s aim is not to persistently find traces of the past but to lucidly, and through photographic narration, implement a direct intervention that has to do with memory.

A memory that is contrary to the museification of contexts and closer to experimentation, here understood as experience linked to experience, to the reinterpretation of places and of specific spatio-temporal dimensions, which becomes the ideal habitat to begin the story. At the center of the story, two elements that the author identifies and highlights: distance and closeness.

In the photographs of 258MINUTES, the author depicts atmospheres in which detachment is almost palpable, his attitude appears neutral and, at the same time, it is possible to perceive the immersion he makes in a reality unexpectedly full of symbols of obvious normality. There is no trace of spectacle, there is no emphasis on possible moments of commemoration. It is not a day like any other day, yet everything seems to be the same as the ordinary everyday life of any given moment.
